My name is William Chou.
I’m a 22-year-old <jewel of self-identity>. I enjoy technology, but also art, dance, and other forms of creative expression. My last name starts with “Ch” which, in some circles, is a giveaway that my ancestors did not mingle among the pilgrims. In fact, my parents were born in Taiwan, which makes me Chinese-American (or Taiwanese-American, depending on your politics).
As it seems educational background is defining for people in my age-group, I’ll start with that.
I’ve recently graduated from Cornell University in Computer Science, again – B.A. ‘09, M.Eng ‘10.
I’ve always been at odds with what I believe are the natures of my interests. I like the exercises of analytical thinking and I find building stuff rewarding, but I don’t revel in test-taking and standardized grades. I appreciate the aesthetic side of technology and I used to be an aspiring artist, but I also don’t particularly enjoy three-hour-long critiques and slumber parties at studio. Ultimately, as an undergrad I studied CS – probably because monitor radiation feeds my life force.
Other than my profuse love for cramming textbook material, I enjoy dance.
Specifically, “bboying” or “breaking”. Better known as “breakdancing” (although we don’t like to call it that — long story) – it’s that thing spawned in the 1970’s where you, like, spin on your head and stuff. I’m part of a breaking crew at my school called “Absolute Zero”. If you ever happen to swing by Ithaca (which is likely never), stop by one of our sessions and dance with us in a circle.
Today, everyone and their grandmother
has a blog, or so it seems. Share some thoughts; receive some comments. For me, having my own website provides a medium for both content and art – it is my blank canvas, so to speak.
